This was a week of academic greatness in our household and Andy and I couldn't be prouder. The week started with Peyton's spelling test on Tuesday. She studied and studied and scored her first 100!!! She was beaming and so excited. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a picture or hang it up because it was eaten by a canine visitor. Oh well, Peyton has assured me there are many more 100's to come!
Every few months at the girls school they do the Willis Elementary Gecko Awards. There is an award for each letter in the word gecko.
G-great effort
E-excellence in academics
C-creativity
K-kindness
O-outstanding citizenship
I had gotten a notice that Eliza would be getting her award this time around. I was assuming she would get kindness, like Peyton had last year, or outstanding citizenship. They called her name for excellence in academics!! Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that any child of Andy's and mine would win this type of award. I am not being mean or negative, but Andy and I were not the best of students or I should just say learning did not come as easily to us as it did others. I was so pleased and excited! Academics does come easily for Eliza and she has always been a great learner. She was so excited to go on stage and accept her award and prizes. When Peyton found out Eliza had won she told her how proud she was of her.
Along with the written out award, the kids also get a few prizes. They get a free kids meal to Chilies, so we are going there tonight. A free kids meal to some other place and the main prize that all the kids are beyond psyched for is a car magnet of a gecko that says Willis Elementary Geckos. Eliza couldn't wait to put hers right beside Peytons. Some cars have 10 magnets adorning their backsides, but I have told Peyton and Eliza that there will only be two........ever. They can switch them out each year with their fresh ones, but we are not going to be the family who puts 2 on the back of the car every year and watch them add up.
As for Kai's achievements this week, he has been expressing himself in a very loud manner. I think he said diaper, he has been taking out all his books from the bookshelf in an aggressive way,* putting his play food away when told, rejecting most food I have been serving him which has made the dogs very happy because he chucks it to the floor while I am not looking, and he has been taking big gulps of his drink and then spewing it all over himself. That gives him a good laugh, but not me.
It has been a very good week!!
